When it comes to field recording, I usually go to nearby hills or walk through urban areas capturing ambient sounds. For that, I would choose breathable, comfortable sportswear. If you were asking more about what I wear for live performances, I also tend to wear functional, movement-friendly clothes while travelling to venues — often sportswear again, especially when I’m carrying heavy gear and navigating multiple forms of public transport like buses, trains, trams, and metros.
When a tour lasts for two weeks or more, I often have to wash clothes between cities, so fast-drying materials like cotton or synthetic activewear become essential. Bulky or delicate garments are hard to pack and carry — especially when everything gets crammed into the same suitcase as heavy equipment. Over the past five years of performing, my fashion choices have changed quite a lot because of this.
In the beginning, I had fewer performances and focused more on visual art and performance, so I packed more unique, decorative outfits. But as my touring schedule became busier, I leaned towards travel-friendly clothing — soft, easy-to-move-in items that I could wear during soundchecks or long journeys. I also started receiving T-shirts as gifts from venues, musicians, or festivals — many of them DIY events or underground spaces — and now I often wear those in daily life. Since starting noise music in 2023, I’ve played more punk, squat, or metal-type venues, and began wearing a lot of black T-shirts, though I rarely bought them myself — most were given to me.
As for stage outfits, I’ve tried a few different things. I once wore a shirt I really liked and ended up tearing it badly during a physically intense performance. So now I avoid anything delicate or overly structured — I mostly wear oversized T-shirts or sleeveless tops. Performances are physically demanding, especially under hot stage lights, so breathability is vital. I’ve come to understand why some DJs wear bikinis or revealing clothes — when you're playing for 1–3 hours straight, it gets really hot. Even my 30–60 minute sets make me sweat a lot.
Black tops also tend to absorb stage lighting best — they don’t reflect too much, and they help keep the focus on the face. White clothing reflects too much light and gets washed out under stage lighting, so I avoid it. I also don’t wear many patterns or bright colours. For trousers or skirts, I go for oversized fits or cuts that allow movement, usually sticking to muted tones.
Ultimately, I think the most important thing is wearing what feels physically and mentally comfortable. My current choices reflect both my taste — influenced by punk and Japanese street fashion — and the practical realities of touring. I don't go for overly decorative looks, but there are small touches I like, such as checks, chains, belts, or legwarmers. These elements make me feel good.
Over time, my wardrobe has adapted to the realities of music life: it’s become lighter, easier to wash, and more movement-friendly. If my schedule ever calms down, I’d love to spend time rethinking my on- and off-stage wardrobe more intentionally — maybe even work with friends who do styling, go second-hand hunting, and build a small, versatile collection that reflects both practicality and who I am.
